The TRiO Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program at Prince George’s Community College is a FREE, non-profit, pre-college program. The primary goal of TRiO VUB is to prepare eligible veterans to enter any college of their choice and be successful toward completion by providing short-term refresher courses and other services for veterans who have been out of high school or delayed pursuing a college education for five or more years and need help with becoming more college ready.
What Does It Cost to Participate in the Veterans Upward Bound Program?
The Veterans Upward Bound program is funded by the Department of Education and is of no cost to the veteran. All refresher classes and supplies are FREE to qualified veterans.
What’s the Service Area for the Veterans Upward Bound Program?
The program serves 125 veterans annually who reside in the District of Columbia and seven counties in Maryland: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s.
Where Are Program Services Held?
The program offers face-to-face and hybrid classes as well as informational sessions at the main campus of Prince George’s Community College. Classes are typically held during the evening hours Monday-Thursday and via online platforms. The program operates year-round, with fall and spring classes (8-15 weeks) and summer classes (six weeks).

How Do I Qualify?
- Be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States; or
- Meet one of four veteran definitions:
- Served on active duty as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces for more than 180 days and was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable; or
- Served on active duty as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and was discharged or released because of a service-connected disability; or
- Was a member of a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces and was called to active duty for more than 30 days; or
- Was a member of a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces who served on active duty in support of a contingency operation on or after September 11, 2001
- Have a high need for academic support
- Be a potential first-generation college student (whose parent or adoptive parent did not earn a bachelor’s degree before your 18th birthday)
- Have low taxable income as defined by the U.S. Department of Education

- Complete the Veterans Upward Bound Pre-Screen Form and Veterans Upward Bound Participant Application

- Complete and submit all required documents (DD214, etc.)
