This glossary is provided to help clarify/explain the item(s) requested by the Student Financial Aid Office. Please use this reference only for those items requested.

Federal Tax Transcript –Copies are needed of the federal tax transcript(s) for student, spouse if married, and parents of a dependent student. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or go to www.irs.gov .

Non-filer - Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or go to www.irs.gov to request both a Wage and a Tax Transcript to verify that a tax return was not filed for the tax year.

Admission - You must apply and be accepted for admission to PGCC to receive financial aid. Please contact the Office of Admissions at 301-546-0866 or enrollmentservices@pgcc.edu.

Amended Federal Tax Return – Submit a signed copy of your, your spouse if married, and your parents’ if dependent, Amended Federal Tax Return that has been stamped by the IRS.

College Transcripts - Please submit transcripts for all colleges/or universities you attended during the academic year specified in Owl Link.

Confirmation of Homeless Status - You indicated on your FAFSA that you were determined to be an unaccompanied youth who was homeless as of or after July 1, 2020. Please have the agency that made the determination complete the enclosed form and return it to us.

DD-214 - The Department of Veterans Affairs could not verify your Veteran’s status. Please submit documentation to the Student Financial Aid Office of your Veteran’s status (e.g. DD214).

Dependent Asset Verification – Can be obtained from our website. Please complete all sections (including signatures) and submit it to the Student Financial Aid office.

Dependent Verification Worksheet – Can be obtained from our website. Please complete all sections (including signatures) and submit it to the Student Financial Aid office.

DHS C Code - The Department of Homeland Security (formerly INS) has not confirmed that you are an eligible non-citizen or a citizen of the United States. You must submit proof of your eligible status before you will be considered for federal student aid. Documentation of eligible non-citizenship status must contain your Alien Registration Number.

Emancipated Minor Doc - You indicated that you are an emancipated minor. Please provide us with a copy of the court’s written decision granting you Emancipation. Please note that the State of Maryland does not emancipate minors.

FAFSA w/o Parent Info - You did not provide parent information on your FAFSA. If you are requesting a review due to special circumstances, please contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance. Otherwise, your parents must provide their financial information on the FAFSA and sign the form so that we may determine your eligibility.

Government Issued ID – Please present a valid government-issued photo identification, such as, but not limited to a driver’s license, other state-issued ID, or passport.

Grad/Prof Student - You have indicated on your FAFSA that you are an independent student because you plan to be a Graduate/Professional Student during the 2021-22 award year. This is incorrect for PGCC, therefore, you are a dependent student. Please add your parents’ information to your FAFSA.

High School Diploma/Transcript – Copy of high school diploma, official transcript w/completion date, GED certificate or transcript, or college transcript showing completion of at least a 2-year program that is acceptable for full credit toward a BA Degree.

High School Verification Form - Can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office. Please complete, attach required documentation, and then sign this form in the presence of a financial aid official.

Independent Asset Verification - Can be obtained from our website. Please complete all sections (including signatures) and submit it to the Student Financial Aid office.

Independent Verification Worksheet - Can be obtained from our website. Please complete all sections (including signatures) and submit it to the Student Financial Aid office.

Ineligible Program – It appears that you are not in a program that is eligible to receive financial aid. You may contact the Office of Admissions to update your degree status.

Ineligible SAP - A review of your academic record shows that you are not meeting the college’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy. Therefore, you are not currently eligible to receive financial aid. Please contact the Student Financial Aid office to discuss your options.

ISIR Signature Reject - You and/or your parent must sign and return your Student Aid Report (SAR) to the FAFSA processor or go to the FAFSA web site and use your FSA ID (username) & password(s) to update the requested signature(s) electronically.

Legal Guardianship Doc - You indicated that you have a legal guardian. Please provide us with a copy of the court order specifying your guardian.

Loan Default - Our records indicate that you are in default on a federal student loan. You are not eligible to receive any federal student aid until your default has been resolved. Once you have repaid the loan or made satisfactory payments to rehabilitate the loan, please submit documentation to our office and we will reactivate your application for financial aid.

Military ID - Send a copy of your Military ID displaying your active military status.

Military Leave & Earning - Send a copy of your Military Leave and Earnings Statement.

Parent Marital Conflict – The parent’s marital status you reported on the FAFSA does not agree with the parent’s tax return filing status reported. Please review and correct either the Parents’ Tax Return Filing Status or Parents’ Marital Status.

Proof Other Dependent Support - Please send proof that you have dependents other than a spouse and/or children.

Selective Service Registration - According to Selective Service records you are not registered. If you are female or were born before 1960, registration is not required. Otherwise, you must submit proof of Selective Service registration before you can receive financial aid. If you have already registered or believe that you are exempt, please contact Selective Service at 847-688-6888 or www.sss.gov.

SSA Citizenship - The Social Security Administration cannot confirm your citizenship status. Please submit documentation (e.g. passport, birth certificate, etc.) to demonstrate your citizenship or eligible non-citizen status. You should also take this document to the Social Security Administration to have them update their records.

Social Security Card - Your Social Security Number cannot be confirmed. Please submit a copy of your Social Security Card to the Student Financial Aid office.

Student Marital Conflict – The marital status you reported on the FAFSA does not agree with your tax return filing status reported. Please review and correct either your Tax Return Filing Status or your Marital Status.

Ward of the Court Documentation – You indicated that you are a Ward of the Court on your FAFSA. Please provide a copy of your court order granting you Ward of the Court status to the Student Financial Aid office.

**Remember all documents, including federal tax returns and verification forms must be signed by both the student and parent.
