This Student Guide outlines the College Central Network clinical experience enrollment process for allied health and nursing students at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). If you have already completed some of the steps, proceed to the next step in sequence as appropriate.
Step 1
Go to College Central Network (CCN) to activate your student account. If you cannot activate your CCN student account, create a new student account. Use your 7- digit PGCC student ID number as your User ID. Create a password and save it in a safe place for expedient site access.
Step 2
Once your CCN student account has been activated or created, complete the registration (account profile) data. Complete the registration data as if you were completing a job application. The registration data can be updated at any time. Use capitalization when appropriate. Remember, future employers will see your registration data. Add your major, availability, special skills, etc., as a part of your profile to appeal to future hiring employers. Allow your CCN student account to receive job announcements, career event notices, and information on special recruitments that match your profile and career interests.
Step 3 (Optional)
If you are seeking employment beyond your clinical experience, prepare a professional résumé and schedule an appointment with an academic and career advisor for a résumé critique using Navigate. Be sure to submit your résumé draft in Navigate when scheduling your résumé critique appointment. For résumé development guidance, listen to the CCN podcast on résumés and review the CCN Career Documents for tips on how to write a competitive résumé and cover letter. Free résumé builder tools are available here:
Submit your advisor-approved résumé in College Central Network for final review and activation by the Office of Career Development and Internships (CD&I) staff.
Step 4 (Optional)
Once your résumé is activated by a CD&I staff member, you may search for a career opportunity using CCN search engines (My School’s Jobs, Jobs Central®, and Intern Central®). Become career-ready by reviewing content from CCN interviewing podcasts, videos, and handouts. Attend CD&I career workshops for additional career insights and strategies.
Step 5
As an allied health/nursing student, your health science instructor will assign you to a clinical site in class. Once you receive your assignment, be sure to obtain/confirm the following information:
- Site name.
- Site supervisor name, email address, and phone number.
- Number of clinical hours weekly.
- The clinical experience course number (e.g., RAD-1530).
If you are not given your site supervisor’s name and/or contact information, use your instructor’s name and email address from your course syllabus.
Step 6
Once you have secured your clinical assignment information, log in to your College Central Network (CCN) student account. Go to the Dashboard and click on Experiential Learning. Scroll down the Experiential Learning Agreements list to locate your program. Select your program from the list and complete the associated Experiential Learning Agreement. Be sure to complete the entire Experiential Learning Agreement for your program before submitting it for review.
Step 7
Once your Experiential Learning Agreement is submitted, it will be forwarded to your department chair or program director for review and approval. You will receive emails from College Central Network (CCN) notifying you whether or not your Experiential Learning Agreement has been approved.
Step 8
Upon starting your clinical experience, keep track of the hours you were in clinical daily to ensure that you satisfy clock-hour credit requirements. Review the College’s Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination policies (see Appendix A) and the Statement of Responsibility, and Authorization Release and Indemnification Agreement (see Appendix B).
Step 9
In addition to documenting your weekly clinical hours, complete all coursework required for the clinical experience, as required in the course syllabus.
Step 10
At the end of your clinical experience, update your résumé and add your clinical experience and new skills to it. Inquire of your clinical contacts if they would agree to serve as a professional reference; if so, obtain their contact information. Also, be sure to complete the following tasks:
- Provide your professional contacts with a copy of your updated résumé as a courtesy.
- Keep a list of your professional contacts that you met during your clinical experience to use as references when you apply for future career opportunities.
- Inform your professional contacts about your employment candidacy prior to submitting their names and contact information to a prospective employer, so they will be aware and prepared to provide the requested reference.
