The Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to students enrolling in an approved non-credit certificate program leading to apprenticeships, employment, licensure, or job skill enhancement.

Who May Apply

Students enrolling in a Workforce Development Sequence (an approved* non-credit certificate program leading to apprenticeships, employment, licensure, or job skill enhancement) at Prince George’s Community College.

Eligibility Criteria

This scholarship is available to:

  • Students who are Maryland residents or Maryland High school graduates; or
  • Students who are active duty members of the U.S. Military stationed in or reside in, or are domiciled in Maryland.

(Students must have a valid social security number and meet at least one of the Maryland residency requirements listed above.)

The student must be enrolled in an eligible Workforce Development Sequence of non-credited courses related to:

  • Job preparation or registered apprenticeship;
  • Licensure or certification; or
  • Job skill enhancement.

 

Award Amount

The Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship has a maximum award amount of $2,000 annually and may be used for:

  • Tuition, mandatory fees, and associated costs of attendance, to the extent the tuition, fees, and associated costs of attendance have not been met though another grant or scholarship by the State or employer.
  • The Workforce Sequence Scholarship may be combined with any other State grant or scholarship, provided that the total amount of grants or scholarships does not exceed the student’s tuition, mandatory fees and other associated costs of attendance.
  • Applications will be accepted on a first come-first serve basis while funding is available.

  • A Prince George’s Community College staff member will review your application and contact you by phone or email.

Renewing an Award

Award recipients may be eligible to receive the award for an additional Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship. To determine eligibility to receive the award for an additional developmental sequence email WDSS@pgcc.edu.

Important Guidelines

  1. Students must have a valid social security number and be a Maryland resident. PGCC reserves the right to adjust or cancel your scholarship at any time if it is determined that you do not meet the qualifications.
  2. Applying for the scholarship does not guarantee an award.
  3. Scholarship recipients will be notified by email with an award letter.
  4. Scholarship awards must be used in the semester awarded.
  5. Scholarship funds can only be used to pay for tuition, fees, and associated costs of attendance (books, equipment) for eligible courses or programs.
  6. Students should not expect refunds of unused grant amounts. Scholarship funds not used within the semester awarded may be cancelled and will require another application.
  7. Students must keep the college informed of any relevant name, address and phone number changes that will affect our ability to contact you.
  8. All scholarships are managed and awarded in accordance to the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s prescribed guidelines and PGCC college policy.
  9. Students must submit for one program at a time.
  10. Students may not be awarded for more than 2 sequences per award year statewide.
  11. Funds are available on a first come, first serve basis.
  12. Students must pledge to remain drug free for the full term of the award.
  13. Applying for the scholarship does not guarantee an award.
  14. Students should not expect refunds of unused grant amounts.
