TBA Overview and Information

Alumni

TBA graduates an average of 50 participants annually and provides job placement assistance to support those seeking employment.

All alumni are encouraged to actively participate. TBA staff actively engages with alums to keep graduates connected to learning and mentoring opportunities at PGCC.

Eligibility, Selection, and Participation

TBA offers training opportunities to veterans, the long-term and chronically unemployed, returning citizens, and college developmental students who are non-completers. Prospective participants must meet three key requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Be a Prince George's County resident.
  • Have encountered adversities in securing employment.
Selection Process

With assistance from program partners, we receive training referrals from local faith-based, community-based, and government organizations. After referrals, prospective participants are screened for substance use and adverse backgrounds, appraised to measure cognitive ability and work-readiness levels, and interviewed to determine interpersonal and communication skills and occupational interests.

After Selection

Once selected, participants are given a pre-test to identify their basic numeracy and literacy skill levels. A reading and math assessment is required. (Visit the CASAS website and use the Reading GOALS and Math GOALS, sample tests, and A-D to prepare for the assessment.)

TBA Training

TBA training begins with two weeks of intense instruction to improve basic employability skills. Concurrently, participants will undergo 10-12 weeks of industry-specific technical training to prepare for entry-level employment in the occupational track selected.

This occupational training offers both theory and hands-on, allowing participants to use the tools and practice the skills necessary for success in their chosen occupation.

Instructors and Staff

TBA instructors are selected based on their industry knowledge and expertise. Our instructors understand the value of their instruction and seek to maintain quality interpersonal relationships with participants. TBA staff is dedicated to participant advocacy and pursuing fundamental resources for their benefit.

On-the-Job-Training Internship

TeamBuilders Academy's On-the-Job-Training (OJT) internship is available to eligible TBA alums. The program is an applied learning model designed to assist participants with gaining additional occupational skills and experience.

TBA OJT internship projects are paid assignments designed to last approximately four to six weeks.

Program Overview

TBA participants can enhance their employability while gaining vocational skills in a shared-learning model. TeamBuilders Academy staff and industry professionals will provide employability and technical training specific to the occupational track selected by each participant.

This unique program training model was designed to be nationally benchmarked and supports the achievement of professional credentials and industry-specific certifications. We've also directly aligned our occupational training tracks with local employment opportunities to ensure your success.

Service Learning

TBA promotes community service. Each student or cohort is assigned a service learning project to serve in the community during enrollment.

Student Engagement

TBA engages its participants throughout their training with various projects. Specifically, TBA participant engagement projects are designed to foster collaboration among students, staff, and stakeholders.
