The PGCC Community Garden began in 2023 as a partnership between the Service-Learning Office and a 3-year Transform Mid-Atlantic (TMA) AmeriCorps VISTA grant. The garden welcomes all students, faculty, staff, and community members to enjoy its benefits. The Community Garden aims to address food security and promote healthy eating by increasing access to fresh and healthy produce, which is donated to the OwlMarket and community members. Benefits of community gardens include:

  • Improves Mental Health: regular contact with nature leads to reduced depressive and anxiety symptoms
  • Improves Physical Health: increased access to fresh food and opportunities for physical activity
  • Increases Community Empowerment: contributes to community bonding and building a sense of community
  • Promotes Environmental Sustainability: provides a platform for environmental education
