Sterile processing technicians are part of a growing healthcare field with high job outlook. There is a growing demand for sterile processing technicians due to increasing numbers of surgical procedures.
This role's daily duties include:
- Cleaning, sterilizing, packaging, and storing medical tools and equipment.
- Following protocol and specific methods for suitable disinfection and sterilization of medical tools and equipment.
- Performing inventory checks.
- Keeping track of spreading illnesses and infections.
Prerequisites and Entrance Requirements
- Provide proof of high school diploma or GED.
- Computer with internet access.
- Ability to speak and understand American English.
- Proof of Accuplacer minimum reading score of 237, or proof of college credits, or a cumulative GPA of 2.6 or higher for recent high school graduates (within five years at a USA high school). Official final transcripts must be sent to the Registration Office to be placed on the students' record.
Workforce Certification
Upon completion of the course, graduates are eligible to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam administered by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).
