PGCC offers introductory and advanced welding as part of the curriculum. These classes are for students who are interested in learning the basic principles of welding, would like to hone and expand their existing skills, and prepare to take an AWS welding certification test.
About the Classes
WLD-300 Basic Arc Welding | 6.00 CEUs - This course is designed to provide the student with introductory knowledge and skills in welding. Topics to be covered include an occupational orientation to welding; safety and health of welders; drawing and welding symbol interpretation; shielded metal arc welding; thermal cutting process; welding prep procedures; and flat, vertical, and overhead techniques.
WLD-301 Advanced Arc Welding | 6.00 CEUs - This course is designed to provide the student with advanced knowledge and skills in welding. Topics to be covered include welding safety; shielded metal arc welding (SMAW); gas metal arc welding (GMAW); plasma arc cutting (PAC); air carbon arc cutting and gouging (CAC-A); and welding and cutting processes. Welds will be performed in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Additional topics are base metal; shielded metal arc welding electrodes; joint fit-up and alignment; groove welds with backing; and open V-groove welds.
WLD-302 Stainless Steel Arc Welding | 6.00 CEUs - An advanced course on welding structural stainless steel for students planning a career in the metal fabrication and welding industry to broaden the skills they can offer their present or prospective employer. This course focuses on a specific portion of the second half of the NCCER welding level 3 book. Topics include welding safety; welding metallurgy of common stainless steels; electrode classifications; weld quality; weld joint preparation; fillet welds and beads in all positions; stainless V-grooves with backing; and AWS weld testing procedures and practice.
WLD-320 Welding Skills Building | 2.10 CEUs - This class is for students who already have a firm grasp of the basic principles of welding and would like to hone and expand existing skills and/or prepare to take an AWS welding certification test. This class is an advanced course on welding for students who are seeking practice time prior to taking a welding certification test or for the student seeking to improve current welding skills through additional lab time.
