Prince George's Community College's Basic Literacy Program provides a supportive and engaging environment to strengthen foundation literacy skills. This program focuses on building essential reading, writing, and communication skills to pave the way for academic and personal success.
Who Should Enroll
- Adults with limited formal education.
- Those seeking to gain basic or foundational literacy skills.
Program Objectives
- Develop and enhance sound-letter recognition.
- Skills to improve word recognition and pronunciation.
- Build vocabulary with high-frequency sight words.
- Improve reading fluency through targeted sight word recognition activities.
- Develop functional grammar and sentence structure skills.

New students will be given a placement test and placed in classes or paired with a tutor based on availability.
