Earn a free digital cybersecurity skill badge during Annual Mid-Atlantic Cybersecurity Capabilities and Careers Symposia Weekend March 31-April 2, 2023

Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) hosts its Annual Mid-Atlantic Cybersecurity Capabilities and Careers Symposia (MA-3CS), including the regional finals for the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) on March 31-April 2. The 2023 MA3CS offers students in Prince George’s County an opportunity to earn a free digital badge in Threat Modeling, Cybersecurity Risk for Healthcare Systems, Cyber Attack and Defend, or Security Operations from the National Cyber Watch Center.

"The competency-based mastery learning instructional design of these courses has enabled more than 80% of prior students to raise their readiness to complete the next certification of choice," said David Tobey, Ph.D., executive director for the National Cyber Watch Center.

In-person registration for the event is Friday, March 31, at the Center for Performing Arts (Building 9 on the campus map) in Largo. You may register in advance here. A welcome and keynote address will begin the conference at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Career Fair and Cyber Arcade from 6:30-9:30 p.m.  The Cyber Arcade offers several challenges, simulations, or games that assess and rank individual cybersecurity capability maturity.

The workshops and sessions on Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2, will be held from 8 a.m.-noon in the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) and the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) (Building 7 on the campus map), with lunch available from the café in the CPA from noon-1 p.m. The full agenda for the weekend is accessible here.

The weekend includes the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), where eight finalists will compete. The winners will represent the Mid-Atlantic region in the National CCDC. The students who compete will bolster their resumes, bring attention to their qualifications and experiences, and network with representatives from leading corporations and federal agencies. They will also gain hands-on experience hardening network assets against live, constant threats and attend keynote speeches by industry leaders. They will gain vital skills for any information technology role, and employers will be able to poach the best of the best.

The event includes awards, demonstrations, and development workshops that prepare students, faculty, and professionals to adopt current best practices for cybersecurity functions.

Registration is free for PGCC students. They will have access to observe the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, attend conference sessions, present their skills at the Talent Fair and meet with employers at Job Fair, and test their skills in the Cyber Arcade. Participants attending for free will be wait-listed for the skills development workshops in the CAT Building, pending space availability, then seated according to their registration date and time.
