Prince George’s Community College Expands Senior Leadership Team with Two New Vice Presidents

Inaugural roles to advance the College’s position as a strategic partner

Justin Douds and Dr. Sherrie Johnson join senior leadership team

LARGO, Md. (November 15, 2022) – Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) announced today the addition of two new members to its senior leadership team: Justin Douds as Vice President for Policy and General Counsel, and Dr. Sherrie Johnson as Vice President for External Affairs, Communications, and Advancement. Both key hires assumed their duties on October 10.

“Mr. Douds and Dr. Johnson are timely additions to the leadership team at Prince George’s Community College,” said Falecia D. Williams, Ed.D., president of the College. “They immediately stood out during the search process because of their strong backgrounds in educational leadership and demonstrated ability to partner effectively in support of organizational change. During the first few weeks in their respective roles, Mr. Douds and Dr. Johnson have already begun to lay the foundation for greater things to come, and we are excited about what is in store.”

A native of Buffalo, New York, Justin Douds has called the Washington, D.C. area home for the past 20 years. Most recently, he served as an education attorney with the District of Columbia Public Schools’ Office of the General Counsel, where he guided Washington, D.C.’s largest public school district through legal, policy, and political challenges, including those resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his new role as Vice President for Policy and General Counsel, Douds will work alongside PGCC leadership to respond to modern learning demands and strengthen the organization’s ability to meet the academic, workforce training, and recreational needs of Prince George’s County residents.

“I am honored to join Prince George’s Community College as its inaugural in-house general counsel, and greatly look forward to the exciting task of developing the office and maximizing my role in providing legal services to assist PGCC leadership achieve its ambitious strategic goals,” said Douds.

Douds holds a bachelor’s degree in international political economy from Georgetown University and a juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.

For the past 26 years, Dr. Sherrie Johnson has served in a leadership capacity for local government, secondary and K-12 public education, and the corporate sector. She is also an Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist, author, and educator at the collegiate level.

Most recently, Johnson was director of communications with the Prince William County Government, where she led a team that managed communications for 32 departments and agencies, as well as 5,000 employees. Her commitment to authentic leadership allowed her to cultivate a unified team positioned to meet the organization’s strategic goals.

In her new role as Vice President for External Affairs, Communications, and Advancement at PGCC, Johnson will lead efforts to strengthen the College’s ability to communicate its value to internal and external audiences in support of student success.

“This is such an exciting time to join Prince George’s Community College,” said Sherrie Johnson, Ed.D. “I look forward to implementing the goals of the strategic plan, providing authentic leadership, and working with College President Dr. Falecia Williams, faculty, students, and staff to move the College forward.”

Dr. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; a master’s degree in communications from Johns Hopkins University; and a Doctor of Education in organizational leadership from Grand Canyon University.
