College Raises Over $25,000 on #GivingTuesday in Support of Student Success

President’s Forward Momentum Scholarship to uplift students of promise

Giving Tuesday campaign tabling in CPA

LARGO, Md. (December 13, 2022) – On Nov. 29, Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) partnered with GivingTuesday, a global day of giving, that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity. The College raised over $25,000 in support of student success, with 75% of donors identifying as employees.

Funds raised during Prince George’s Community College’s 2022 GivingTuesday campaign support the College’s new Forward Momentum Scholarship. Created by PGCC President Dr. Falecia Williams, the scholarship assists promising students that society tends to underestimate or overlook – from first-generation college attenders, perceived underachievers, and low-income students to individuals with disabilities and adult learners. Annual giving totals to date for the Forward Momentum Scholarship exceed $50,000.

“GivingTuesday is a global campaign celebrating the power of people and their impact on their communities,” said Brenda Mitchell, executive director of the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement and the Foundation.

“At Prince George’s Community College, we demonstrated our Owl spirit by helping to endow the Forward Momentum Scholarship Program designed to support gifted students that society tends to underestimate. We are grateful to our faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate donors for their participation.”

During the GivingTuesday campaign, a private individual and Verizon, a corporate donor, contributed $20,000. College employees donated more than $3,000, and alumni and friends raised $2,000.

Prince George’s Community College has a rich history of providing affordable, high-quality learning experiences for diverse populations. The College serves the greatest percentage of non-white credit students in the state of Maryland.
