Prince George’s Community College and Catholic Charities Partner to Tackle Growing Food Disparities

Food Distribution Event Spreads Hope to Communities in Need on September 11, 2020

Community Food Distribution provides free resources for residentsLARGO, Md. (September 3, 2020) – Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and Catholic Charities DC partner to address the root causes of food insecurity and health disparities, with a Community Food Distribution on September 11, 2020. Held on the National Day of Service, the event will bring together residents of Prince George’s County and surrounding communities to provide food resources and education to individuals who currently lack healthy, convenient, and affordable options, including PGCC students and their families. Residents will also have the opportunity to register for a class that leads to required certifications for jobs in the food service industry.

Economic challenges resulting from the coronavirus pandemic have exacerbated food disparities in the county, creating hardship for many area residents, including those who have underlying health conditions. The food distribution event, part of a larger initiative, is just one of the many ways that the College will partner with others to create a community in which basic needs are met for all residents.
