RESPIRATORY CARE PROGRAM AT PGCC RECEIVES NATIONAL
AWARD FOR STUDENT CREDENTIALING SUCCESS
LARGO, Md. (June 25, 2020) –The Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) respiratory care program has been recognized for the fourth time by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) for its success in meeting and exceeding accreditation standards and producing graduates who achieve their Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials. The College will receive CoARC’s Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credentialing Success Award.
The respiratory care program at Prince George’s Community College is among a select group of programs to be recognized by CoARC this year. The award highlights program success in producing graduates who achieve and retain their Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. The RRT is nationally recognized as a standard of excellence for respiratory care professionals.
“This is the highest award that a college can receive from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoArc), and it is a testament to our students’ hard work and the quality education that we provide at Prince George’s Community College,” said Associate Professor and Respiratory Care Program Coordinator Nina Lewis. “We would not be able to do this without dedicated students and faculty, committed support from our administration, and facilities that are state of the art.”
The award is based on objective criteria that are documented in the CoARC 2019 Annual Report of Current Status. The programs selected for recognition have three or more years of outcomes data, maintain accreditation without a progress report, have documented RRT credentialing success of 90 percent or higher, and meet or exceed established CoARC thresholds for Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialing success and retention.
The Prince George’s Community College respiratory care program is among six in Maryland that have CoARC accreditation.
