PGCC Foundation: #GivingTuesday is Over but Spirit of Giving Continues

LARGO, Md. (Dec. 4, 2018) – Giving Tuesday has become an internet phenomenon over the past seven years. The Tuesday – which follows Thanksgiving Day every year -- allows organizations to garner support from jolly consumers and businesses filled with holiday cheer and a spirit of giving.
This #GivingTuesday, Prince George’s Community College rallied its social media community for a #GivingTuesday challenge. In celebration of the 60thanniversary, the college announced six goals that encouraged donations from six categories: employees, new donors, friends, corporations, alumni, and retirees.
“We are thrilled by those who joined us for this year’s #GivingTuesday ‘Let’s Score 60 for the 60th’ campaign,” said Brenda Mitchell, executive director of the Office of Institutional Advancement. “This was a great way to bring the community together and kick off the holiday giving season. All are encouraged to continue to give as the year winds down.”
Donors were able to “Take a Seat” and purchase a commemorative plate for a seat in the newly renovated Center for Performing Arts, or create a “Pathway to Success” by purchasing a commemorative brick that will pave the courtyards of the Center for Performing Arts and Lanham Hall. Individuals were also able to give to the college’s “Owl Give” annual campaign.
The past 60 years are evidence that monetary support is vital to creating and sustaining a high-quality educational environment. Because of donor support, the college has expanded to serve students in more parts of the county, provide real life, hands-on training, and ensure that students can complete their degree in less time and with lower costs.
