PGCC Awarded $25,000 Grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation

LARGO, Md. (Aug. 14, 2018) – Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) Foundation was awarded a $25,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation for its focus on economic mobility for individuals and families.
The grant will support the Information Technology Early College (ITEC) partnership between PGCC and Chesapeake Math and Information Technology (CMIT) Academy Public Charter School.
The ITEC program increases opportunities for high school students to earn college credits and industry certifications in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Students who complete the program graduate with their high school diploma and an associate degree in information technology.
This is not the first time the program has received a grant award from Bank of America. “You know you have a good program when it is continuously awarded,” said Diane Butler, manager of Grants Management Services at PGCC.
Bank of America’s focus on economic mobility aligns perfectly with the ITEC program because the program gives students, most of whom are African-American and Hispanic, the opportunity to level the playing field for STEM jobs that pay more and often lack diversity. It provides pathways for students to obtain an associate degree and certificate at little to no cost and move on to obtain a bachelor degree at a fraction of the cost.
Prince George’s Community College understands that the cost of a higher education can be expensive, so to receive grants that help students who fall within poverty-level eligibility criteria, is a step in the right direction to improve the economic mobility for them and their families.
