PGCC and AOBA Partnership Awards Seven Scholarships at Annual Scholarship Reception

LARGO, Md. (Sept. 10, 2018) – Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and the Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA) of Metropolitan Washington awarded scholarships to seven PGCC students on Thursday, September 6.
Gianna Asomani-Graham, Benjamin Fuentes, George Howe-Cole, Elvira Nnodim, Janet Quartey, Jeremiah Vega, and Bryan Ventura all received a two-year scholarship worth $6,000 to pay for their education at PGCC. In addition to scholarship money, the students will have the opportunity to participate in a mentoring program, internships, and job shadow opportunities while enrolled as PGCC students.
The AOBA Scholarship Program has awarded 161 students with over $1 million in scholarships throughout its 22 years of existence.
“[Students] have received prestigious scholarships to further their education, and many have transferred to four year universities, including American University, University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, and Howard University,” President Dr. Dukes exclaimed to the scholarship recipients.
The students received words of encouragement and remarks from several members of the college community, including Suzanne D. Hillman, CEO of Southern Management Corporation, Dannielle M. Glaros, chair, Prince George’s County Council, and Chantel Walker, former PGCC student and AOBA alumna.
The reception also featured a surprising tribute in memory of the late David H. Hillman of Southern Management Corporation for his role in the establishment of the AOBA Scholarship Program and long-time commitment to student success.
