Prince George’s Community College Announces Merger of the Community Financial Center with the Financial Empowerment Center New Program Director hired to lead initiatives.

LARGO, Md. (April 25, 2018) - The Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) announced today that PGCC alumn Heath Carelock will join the team as the new program director. Carelock joins with many years of experience providing financial education for Preview nonprofits. His work will support the center’s initiatives to build partnerships for financial and small business workshops, credit and debt repair, housing counseling, and free tax preparation.
The center provides free financial services to individuals and families in Prince George’s County through a partnership with United Way of the National Capital Area and recently merged with the Community Financial Center (CFC) of Prince George’s Community College. The Community Financial Center has been a vital resource for bridging the wealth gap for Prince George’s County residents. The merger will enable FEC to continue that work, expand its services, and help more families advance on a path toward financial stability.
“The work that the center is doing to build wealth and improve financial literacy in Prince George’s County is amazing, and I’m happy to be a part of it,” said Carelock.
The Financial Empowerment Center will continue to host events and provide services including the financial workshops in partnership with Mission of Love Charities in Capital Heights, Maryland on May 8, 9, and 10 as well as June 19, 20, and 21 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. On May 15, the center will provide small business coaching services to PGCC students participating in the Hillman Entrepreneurs Program Pitch Gladiator Competition.
