- Call the Department of Public Safety at 301-546-0111 and advise them of your location and the nature of the victim's illness or injury. If the injury is life-threatening, call 911 first.
- If trained and comfortable, you can provide first aid until medical assistance arrives.
- Do not attempt to move a victim unless their life is in immediate danger.
- Comfort the victim, and assure them that help is on the way.
- Don't allow yourself to be exposed to chemicals, electric shock, fire, flood, or body fluids. If possible, wear protective equipment, or wait for professional assistance.
- Remain after help arrives to provide needed information.
- If you suspect that you have been exposed to an infectious disease advise your supervisor and seek medical attention immediately.
