Bomb Threat Received By Phone
Attempt to gain as much information as possible from the caller. Date and document all information you are able to obtain from the caller such as:Where is the bomb located?
- When will it go off?
- What does it look like?
- What kind of bomb is it?
- What will cause it to explode?
- Did you place the bomb?
- Why?
- What is your name? Note caller ID.
- Note the caller’s voice. Note any background noises.
Bomb Threat Received By Handwritten Or Email Note
- Preserve the evidence.
- Handle the document minimally.
- Do not delete or alter email message.
- Immediately call 911 and provide as much detail as possible.
- Follow instructions from the police or other emergency response personnel. Depending on the circumstances, you may be instructed to evacuate the area.
- Never activate the fire alarm or use radios or cell phones or other wireless devices.
- Note any unusual items (packages, back packs, etc.) or suspicious objects and immediately report that information to the responding authorities.
Bomb Threat Concerning A Suspicious Package
- Remain calm.
- If your phone has Caller ID, record the number displayed.
- Gain the attention of someone else close-by, point to this information, and have that person call 911 from another landline telephone. This call should be made out of hearing range of the caller.
- Try to keep the caller on the phone long enough to ask and collect as much information about the bomb and caller.
- Work with arriving emergency personnel to assist them in evaluating the situation.
- Assist emergency responders with a search of the area, if requested.
- Provide for an orderly evacuation if ordered by emergency personnel.
